The general rules of life state that you don't trade big for small. Only a moron of a GM would swap out Shaq for Earl Boykins or Nate Robinson if given the opportunity. Hence the term "size matters." Whether it's some meathead who has a tattoo across his chest that says "there's no replacement for displacement," some rapper rolling on 30-inch rims, or a K20-swap into a Honda Fit...the point gets across. However, there is always an exception to that rule. To some, it's about the quality not the quantity; the motion in the ocean, not the size of the boat-or so we Asians keep telling ourselves to help us sleep at night. In comes the crazy Japanese tuner known as Trial. Would you yank a perfectly good 2JZ twin-turbo motor and swap in a 3S-GTE engine from an MR2? They would. And they did. Keep in mind, the 2JZ is worth 3.0L of displacement and the 3S is just 2.0 stock and 2.2 after being bored and stroked with HKS and custom internals. For those who aren't good at comprehending complicated stuff like math we'll lay it out for you simply: 3.0L is bigger than 2.2L. Nonetheless, the Trial crew went along with a swap that has been passed up by many. In fact, we can probably count on one hand how many of these 3S-swaps into Supras we've seen. After some building, fiddling and tuning, the twin GT turbine-powered 3S motor cranks out 520hp while saving weight and plenty of room in the engine bay. Maybe size doesn't matter after all.
